Whitening is safe and effective when a dentist does it. The question worth asking isn't who's cheapest. It's who's allowed to use what actually works.
If you're searching for teeth whitening in Wrexham, you'll find dentists, beauty salons, and shop kits at every price point. They are not the same thing, and the difference isn't marketing. It's the law, and the chemistry. Here's what to expect, what it costs, and how to choose.
Why Provider Matters
Over-the-counter kits are legally capped at 0.1% peroxide, and beauty salons aren't permitted to use anything stronger. That's why those results are mild, patchy, and short-lived. Dentist-supervised whitening uses a properly regulated gel at a known concentration, 6% hydrogen peroxide for day whitening or 10 to 16% carbamide peroxide for night whitening, in custom-fitted trays, monitored throughout. If someone outside a dental practice promises instant dramatic whitening, it's either ineffective or it's using something it shouldn't be.
What It Costs
At DRJB Smile Clinic, Boutique Whitening starts at £385 for a straightforward case and rises to £600 for more complex cases, which can include internal bleaching where it's needed. Every course starts with a free consultation and 3D scan. A healthy tooth always whitens better, so the exam is the reason for the starting point, not a way of padding the bill.
What to Expect
The first few days bring a subtle shift, and some sensitivity is normal and settles quickly. By around a week you'll usually see a clear one to three shade lift, and most people reach their brightest natural shade within one to two weeks. Teeth look their whitest in the first day or two, then settle a little as the enamel rehydrates. That's normal, not a sign it's failing. Most patients hold a meaningfully brighter shade for twelve to twenty-four months.
Day or Night
Day whitening means wearing trays for 60 to 90 minutes at a time, which is quick and suits mild staining or a top-up before an event. Night whitening uses a gentler concentration worn overnight, better suited to sensitive teeth or deeper, older staining. We'll recommend one after looking at your teeth.
What Whitening Won't Do
It only changes natural enamel. Fillings, crowns, and veneers don't respond, which is why we sometimes refresh a composite afterwards to match the new shade. It's another reason to be examined first.
Where to Go
We're in Ruabon, a few minutes from Wrexham, and see whitening patients from Llangollen, Oswestry, Chester, and across Shropshire. Whichever provider you choose, make sure a registered dentist is supervising it. Check the GDC register if you're unsure.
