Two More Cases: A Root Canal That Led Further, and a Smile Nobody Thought to Fix

A smile doesn't fix everything. But it gives you permission to begin.

Two more real, anonymised cases — different from the two in our other patient stories post, though similarly named to protect privacy. One started as a root canal and became something bigger. The other had simply never been offered the conversation before.

The Patient Who Came in for a Root Canal

A patient in her early thirties was referred to us for a re-root canal on a front incisor — an old injury, previously treated and patched by other dentists over the years. She'd stopped smiling properly long before she ever sat in our chair.

The root canal itself went as planned. But while we were looking at that tooth, it was clear there was more going on — old gaps and asymmetry from the original trauma that had never been addressed, just worked around. We talked about it properly for the first time, and the plan grew from there: internal bleaching to deal with the discolouration the trauma had left in the tooth, then composite bonding to close the remaining gaps and even things out.

None of it happened in one sitting, and none of it was oversold as a "transformation." It was a root canal that turned into a proper look at a tooth that had been patched, not fixed, for years.

The Patient Who'd Never Considered It

A different patient, in her early seventies, had years of heavily restored, unevenly worn teeth — the kind of wear that accumulates slowly across decades of normal dental history. She'd never once considered cosmetic treatment. In her words, she felt too old to be worrying about it. She wasn't. We talked through it properly, sketched out the options, and agreed a plan: composite bonding first to rebuild what wear had taken, with crowns to follow for the teeth that needed more than bonding could offer long-term. The point wasn't a dramatic before-and-after. It was protecting what she had left and stopping the wear from getting worse.

Why Age Isn't the Deciding Factor

Neither of these cases started with someone asking for a "smile makeover." One started as a root canal referral. The other started with a patient who genuinely hadn't thought treatment was for her. Both ended up somewhere more comprehensive, because once we were actually looking properly, there was more worth addressing than the original reason for the appointment.

Where This Starts for Anyone Else

A 3D scan and a straightforward conversation with our Treatment Coordinator team about what's actually going on — no assumption that you need a full plan, and no assumption that you're "too old" or "not bad enough" to have the conversation at all.
